The experienced Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal signed a contract with Flamengo, the most famous Brazilian football club, according to what the latter announced on Thursday, after leaving his former club Inter, the runner-up of the Italian league, due to the end of his contract with him in June.
The Rio de Janeiro State Club wrote on its Twitter account: “Welcome to the red-black dream”, referring to the club’s two colors.
In turn, Vidal (35), who will wear the number 32, expressed his happiness after the official announcement of the deal: “Today the dream I’ve had all my life has come true.”
Known for his tough character, strange haircut and tattoos on his body, Vidal ended a 15-year career in European stadiums, winning 9 local titles with Juventus, Inter, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
Vidal told Brazilian channel TNT Sports in March: “I dream of playing in Flamengo. I love this club, I will play and I will do my best. It is a competitive team, the best in South America. “
“King Arturo” hopes to win the Copa Libertadores Cup for the first time in his career, as he insisted: “It is a dream because it is synonymous with the (Libertadores Cup) for the Champions League.”
Flamengo has reached the final of the continental competition twice in the last three editions, only to be crowned in 2019 before losing the final last year.
Vidal started his football career with Chilean Colo Colo (2005-2007) before playing professionally on the old continent with Bayer Leverkusen (2007-2011), Bayern Munich (2015-2018), the German clubs, Juventus (2011-2015) and Inter (since 2020) the Italians and Barcelona (Spain) 2018-2020).
