The Tunisian presidency announced that President Kais Saied honored tennis star Anas Jaber with the highest medal of sports merit in the country.


The presidency statement said the honor came “in appreciation of Anas Jaber’s outstanding sporting achievement and in recognition of her contributions to the raising of the national flag in international sports forums, as she was an ambassador for Tunisia and our precious country.” and the abilities of its youth when it has the conditions and resources that enable it to excel and shine in all fields.”


Jaber, who lost the Wimbledon final, the third of the four major tournaments, to Yelena Rybakina of Kazakhstan, who was awarded the title of “Minister of Happiness” by the Tunisians, became the first Arab to reach the final of a major tennis tournament, and the first African in the professional era.


The Tunisian presidency released a video clip after the meeting in which Jaber said: “We want to set an example for young people, and we are proud to be Tunisians, and we will continue to achieve success.”
Today, Friday, an official and popular reception for Anas Jaber will be held on Habib Bourguiba Street, the main street in the capital Tunis.
