Warning Russia-Ukraine war will escalate into WWIII as top British general prepares to fight in Europe

Britain’s top general has told every soldier to prepare to face Russia in a possible World War III, saying a battle in Europe seems very likely.

Britain’s top general has told every soldier to prepare to fight against Russia in a possible World War III.

General Sir Patrick Sanders, the new army commander, said Vladimir Putin’s massacre attack on Ukraine had shaken the foundations of global security, The Sun reports.

He vowed to forge an army that can defeat Russia in battle.

And he warned brave British troops that they must now prepare “to fight again in Europe”.

In a rousing first message to every soldier serving, he said the world had changed since the Russian dictator invaded Ukraine on February 24.

Gen Sanders began his new role last Monday — writing on his fourth day on the job: “There is now a burning need to forge an army capable of fighting alongside our allies and taking Russia into battle.” defeat.”

In a chilling reference to World War II, he added: “We are the generation that must prepare the military to fight in Europe again”.

As chief of general staff, he will lead the smallest army for 300 years after the government reduces the force to 73,000 troops — about the size of America’s special forces.

The military is also losing some 800 armored vehicles and 80 Challenger 2 tanks, despite Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s 2019 promise not to “cut our armed forces in any shape or form”.

The former Rifles commander added: “I am the first Chief of General Staff since 1941 to take command of the army in the shadow of a land war in Europe involving a continental power.

“The Russian invasion of Ukraine underscores our core purpose of protecting the UK by being ready to fight and win wars on the land.”

Gen Sanders, 56, who led tours of Iraq and Afghanistan, vowed to accelerate plans to modernize the military and deploy more abroad to respond more quickly to crises.

Both steps would strengthen NATO “and deprive Russia of the opportunity to occupy even more of Europe”.

As Commander of the UK Strategic Command from 2019 to May, he oversaw all UK Special Forces.

He said the military had to “deter Russian aggression with the threat of violence”.

He added: “It is my unique duty to make our military as deadly and effective as possible.

“The time is now and the opportunity is ours to seize.”

Tobias Ellwood, Tory chair of the defense committee, urged the British Prime Minister to backtrack on defense cuts.

He said: “The magnitude of the ongoing threat from Russia shows that we have entered a new era of insecurity.

“We need to rethink some of the cuts made in our conventional defense posture in the last integrated assessment.”
