“We don’t even care about them”

Rodrygo has made another bold claim, saying that Real Madrid don’t care about Barcelona. This time he fired at the Catalan club after poking fun at Mohamed Salah in Liverpool last week.

† Rodrygo: “If the biggest rivalry is with Barcelona or Atlético? It’s Barcelona, but I think Real Madrid has no rival, they say ‘our biggest rival is Real Madrid’ and we don’t even care about them.”

When asked who Madrid considers their biggest rivals at the moment, Rodrygo was quoted by MadridXtra as saying:

“If the biggest rivalry is with Barcelona or Atletico? It’s Barcelona, but I think Real Madrid has no rival, they say ‘our biggest rival is Real Madrid’ and we don’t even care about them.”

The youngster amused himself last week at Salah’s expense. He was quoted by ESPN Brazil as saying:

“When the game was over, [Real] Madrid players made a runner, Liverpool passed by, Salah passed by a little sad, head down, Modric looked at him and said ‘Thank you Salah, next time you try again’. I started laughing.”

Rodrygo chose Real Madrid over Barcelona

Rodrygo revealed that he chose Los Blanocs over Barcelona in 2019. He claimed that both Spanish giants were interested in signing him and sent shirts to his home in Brazil.

Speaking to the Jota Jota podcast, Mundo Deportivo quoted him as saying:

“I came home after a game. I had a shirt from Madrid in the house and my father came into the room with that shirt and another one from Barcelona and he said ‘now choose’. And I chose the Madrid shirt.”

Continuing to talk about time in Madrid, Rodrygo added:

“During my debut with Madrid, in pre-season, I scored a goal from a free kick and celebrated it. When I got to the dressing room, Marcelo and Nacho said to me: ‘If you lose and you celebrate, make sure you the ball and go to the center circle, you’re not celebrating.”

Los Blancos paid €45 million to sign the Brazilian when he was 17 years old from Santos.
