Why is there a “very high” chance that Dustin Martin will not be in Richmond in 2023?

Sports day co-host Sam McClure believes there is a “very high” chance that Dustin Martin will leave Richmond at the end of the season.

The three-time Norm Smith medalist has two years to go and will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2024 season.

But McClure reported Monday night that Martin could move elsewhere at the end of the current campaign as he weighs his near future.

“I think as we are here now there is a very high probability that Dustin Martin will not play in Richmond next year,” he said. Sports day

“Sydney is always mentioned… he loved Sydney and if he wanted to go there they would move heaven and earth to make it possible.

“Damien Hardwick said not long ago that if (Dustin Martin) wanted to go, he would go with (Hardwick’s) blessing.

“But he still has two years to go, so that’s easier said than done.”

Martin will miss Richmond’s game against Gold Coast on Saturday after sustaining a hamstring injury in the club’s win over West Coast.

The 31-year-old has had an interrupted season so far and took personal leave earlier in the year before missing out on round 14 win over Carlton due to illness.
