Tim Watson believes Carlton has all the tools to win the premiership this year.
The Blues had their best win of the year this weekend, beating Fremantle by 31 points at Marvel Stadium, despite having one healthy key defender on their roster.
The former Essendon captain believes the club is beginning to assume the role of head coach Michael Voss.
“There was a point in that game over the weekend where Freo came really hard at them in the third quarter and it seemed like the game changed, but they got through that and then they started at the end of the third,” Watson said. SEN Breakfast.
“They have the capacity to shift gears in games. They can.
“There’s a maturity about the team and if ever a team starts to resemble their coach’s personality, it’s this team.
“Yes, they can (win the premiership). They have the ability. They get back Jacob Weitering, their defensive unit, I see no weakness. I don’t do hottakes. This is not a hot take. Many people who watch football would now have the same opinion.
“Carlton’s top talent is equal to any team in the top talent in the league, but they have some role players in the front line who are just doing the hard grunt work and they work really hard at ground level.
“There are few weaknesses in their team.”
Melbourne great Garry Lyon agrees Carlton has the pieces to win big games.
“To win big games you need superstars. And this is a bit of the St Kilda issue, they don’t have that,’ he said.
“They don’t have them like Carlton has them.”
The Blues take on the Saints this Friday night in a new game with huge ladder implications.
