“Wimbledon”: Djokovic survives fall of Sener and Maria to semifinals

Serb Novak Djokovic, first-seeded and defending champion, escaped the trap against Italian Yannick Sener after clearing his deficit in straight sets to win 6-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6 -2 , yesterday, and booked him a place in the Wimbledon Championships semi-finals. Tennis, the third Grand Slam, while 34-year-old German, 103rd in the world, Tatiana Maria, continued her impressive performance by beating compatriot Jules Niemeyer 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.
Djokovic continued his march to win his fourth title in a row at “Wimbledon” and also to become only the fourth player to win the English title four times in a row after Bjorn Borg, American Pete Sampras and Swiss Roger Federer, and he also wants to win his seventh title in the tournament and be one title away from the record registered as Federer. After the meeting, Djokovic said: “I congratulate Yannick on his great performance. The future awaits him. He is still twenty years old… I am glad I passed this hurdle.”
Maria, for her part, who never made it past the third round in a major tournament, the role she achieved at Wimbledon in 2015, said: “I got goosebumps… It’s a dream to do this with my family and my two young daughters Less than a year ago I gave birth and I stopped playing… This is crazy!”
After losing the first set, Maria found herself late in the second, but with her experience, she was able to come back and beat her opponent who was 12 years younger than her, who is participating in her second major championship. “I just focused on point by point,” Maria explained.
On the other hand, even on a day when his behavior on the pitch was exemplary, Australian Nick Kyrgios couldn’t resist pestering officials and ignoring the all-white rules at Wimbledon. The 27-year-old Australian has been fined twice in the tournament so far and may face another fine after he took to the field in red shoes in his fourth round match against American Brandon Nakashima (Monday).
Kyrgios started the match with white boots and after winning five sets he changed them back to red and put on a red hat while giving an interview on the pitch, although he wore a white one during the match. When asked why he broke the all-white rules, the Australian curtly replied: “I do what I want.”
It is reported that fourth-seeded Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who secured a place in the quarter-finals by beating Dutchman Botique van de Zandschoolp 6-4, 6-2, 7-6, will have a difficult date against American Taylor Fritz after the latter defeated him in the final of the “Indian Wells” tournament in America last March. Romanian champion Simona Halep, who won the title in 2019, met American Amanda Anisimova, the 20th seed, in the quarterfinals.
