Nintendo opened pre-orders for the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 special edition bundle four hours ago. But since then, the online store has been unstable as people rush to deposit money on the collectible.

“We apologize for any inconvenience you may experience while pre-ordering the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 special edition”, Nintendo’s official Twitter account said less than 30 minutes after pre-orders opened this morning. “The My Nintendo Store is experiencing a lot of traffic and we appreciate your patience while we investigate the issue.”

The store listing linked by Nintendo displays a similar message, warning customers that they have been queued and will be removed if they refresh or close the page. Some claim that they stayed on the page for over an hour without any movement, while others cite the short animation loop that freezes and makes them confused about their status.

In addition, those who manage to get the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 On special editions, the pre-order button is often gray and non-functional. A few lucky fans were apparently able to add the item to their cart early on, but were unable to checkout. Anyway, the outrage towards Nintendo is palpable as people just want to buy the game and get on with their days.

“It was easier for me to get a PS5,” said one Twitter user below a popular Wario64 tweet about how long these problems lasted.

“You can’t just sell waifu artbooks and not 100x your server capacity upfront,” someone was kidding on the Xenoblade Chronicles subreddit.

“I’m angry”, the ResetEra comment from one particularly diehard fan explained† “I have a full xeno collection. All standards, all collectors. I’m starting to think I won’t be able to grab these the normal way. I absolutely cannot stand resellers.”

As regards what’s in the bundlethe biggest deal seems to be the aforementioned “waifu artbook”, a full-color, hardcover tome with over 250 pages of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 artwork. It also includes a steelbook case and a box with a special composition from series character designer Masatsugu Saito.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 launches for Switch on July 29. I hope Nintendo doesn’t keep these rabid fans waiting too long or it could get ugly.
